Their emotional, physical and emotional maturity is different from adults and needs to be understood – in particular, distress or trauma manifests itself differently in a young person’s behaviour. Policing policies, processes and interactions with C&YP can have a significant impact on their lives, both in the short and long term. Our ability to engage and interact with C&YP will affect our relationship with them and, ultimately, our effectiveness in reducing policing demand in the future by preventing them from becoming victims or offenders.
