C&YP are not mini-adults and a unique criminal justice system was established to respond to young people at risk. Their emotional, physical and emotional maturity is different from adults and needs to be understood – in particular, distress or trauma manifests itself differently in a young person’s behaviour. Policing policies, processes and interactions with C&YP can have a significant<br/>impact on their lives, both in the short and long<br/>term. Our ability to engage and interact with<br/>C&YP will affect our relationship with them and,<br/>ultimately, our effectiveness in reducing policing<br/>demand in the future by preventing them from<br/>becoming victims or offenders. |
