| 330 | _aThe objective of this project was to develop a prototype system with higher image quality and machine-based video analysis in order to detect undesirable (critical) events during a routine stop. A prototype system was designed and tested. The findings and the design were published (or pending to be published) in peer-reviewed scientific venues. Of the specific goals listed in the original project proposal the following were accomplished: 1. Build a computer system to analyze video and identify certain undesirable events. The system was developed as a software prototype on a laptop computer with a digital video recording device connected to the laptop that could be mounted in the passenger front seat of a car for data collection and testing purposes; 2. Deploy the test system in police cars and in simulations in order to capture realistic video recordings of the intended subject matter. Data was collected from real police car videos as well as from simulated situations which were then used to test the developed algorithms; 3. Test the system’s ability to determine undesirable situations. The situations included open door of the stopped car, person running out of the stopped car, and officer falling down event. Algorithms were developed and tested for detecting all these events successfully;4. The results were disseminated with the proper acknowledgement of the NIJ funding in scientific venues. The commercialization of the system is open for anyone interested in it. | ||
