330 _aThis joint research report with the Foundation for Human Rights Initiative (FHRI) is based on a survey of 194 women in prison in Uganda  (10 per cent of the total female prison population) carried out by FHRI between August 2014 and February 2015. By providing facts and figures, the report seeks to illustrate the need for gender-specific policies that respond to the needs of women in prison, and to enable an identification of the key areas to be addressed as a matter of priority.
